STD/STI's

GET TESTED
Educate yourself on the most transmitted sexually transmitted diseases:

We test for Chlamydia & Gonorrhea ONLY.

Chlamydia (CT)/Gonorrhea(GC)
- Two of the most reportable bacterial STD’s in persons under 25 years of age
- Spread by having vaginal, anal, or oral sex with someone who has been infected
- Often no symptoms
- Left untreated, can lead to Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID) which can cause permanent damage to a woman’s reproductive system and can cause infertility, tubal pregnancy, or death
- Having CT or GC increases the risk of getting or giving HIV, the virus that causes AIDS
- Curable with antibiotics

HPV
-Most common STD spread through skin-to-skin contact
-Often no symptoms, but some strains produce genital warts
-Some types of HPV are “high-risk” and may lead to cancer
-There is no medical cure for HPV.  Genital warts can be removed by surgery, laser, freezing, or acid.

TRICHOMONIASIS
-Common bacterial  STD infection spread through intercourse or skin-to-skin contact
-Symptoms include frothy, yellow-green vaginal discharge, itching, and irritation with a strong odor.
-Curable with antibiotics

BACTERIAL VAGINOSIS (BV)
-An infection caused by an imbalance in the bacteria that are normally found in a woman’s vagina
-Most common vaginal infection in women of childbearing age
-Any woman can get BV, even if not sexually active. Some activities that put a woman at risk are: having a new sex partner or multiple sex partners, and douching
-Symptoms include abnormal vaginal discharge often white/gray in color with an unpleasant odor
-Curable with antibiotics

 ABORTION and STDs
-All women considering abortion should have STD testing to prevent complications from an underlying STD, even if no symptoms are present
-A surgical abortion may cause an STD to spread through the woman’s pelvic area.  This can lead to permanent damage of a woman’s reproductive system and other organs or Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID)
-Abortion clinics do not always test for STDs before an abortion procedure
